Club Monaco

Joe Mimran opened the first Club Monaco store in Toronto, Canada in 1985. It is quite a famous casual wear brand there and was bought by Polo Ralph Lauren in 1999. It offers similar range of clothes like Zara and MNG (both from Spain) but has more classic and wardrobe essentials styles.

Lately, the trademark is neutral colours clothing – black, white, gray, brown and a little bit of colours like turqouise, blue and peach. According to one of the staffs proudly, “Our leather is pure leather.”

The deco follows the season’s advertising campaign – plain white walls with a bit of Victorian structure and black linings on the doors. Just don’t scrutinize the paint – there’ll be further touchup since the opening was rushed in The Gardens outlet.

Oh, the fitting room is cool! It’s like a private room (the matte glass door can be closed) and within the fitting room area are individual fitting rooms with full length mirror, counter/chair to put your stuff and maybe your friends (max 3 thin people) sitting and giving comments. There’s a short stool for you to stand onto in front of another bigger mirror in the area and a pair of high heels for the ladies to preview yourself (and Club Monaco’s clothes).

Club Monaco Fall 2007
Although the clothes colours are mostly neutrals, the models look happy in the advertising campaign – which is rare in highstreet and luxury brand ads.

The look for this Fall season:

  • Men:
    • bow tie & white shirt
    • cashmere turtleneck
    • stripe wool blend
  • Ladies:
    • white shirt
    • high waisted skirt
    • pleated skirt
    • stripe top in turtleneck (black and white, obviously)
    • wide leg and slim pants

The clothes and deco are modern, clean and timeless. You can wear the simple pieces matched with other more elaborate or quirky for your own style anytime.

Most of the clothing materials are in cotton, silk and cashmere.

What’s so special?

However, the great thing about Club Monaco is the cotton is soooo thin and soft that it feels like cashmere to the untrained eye and skin.

For the men, the (button) boxers pattern matches the shirt!
For ladies, the casual t-shirt are in other colours than neutral colours and quite affordable too at around RM100.

The sizes are from XS (00) to XL. Some of the cuttings are quite big so you have to estimate and try it to be sure.

  • Ladies top & bottom RM300 – 600
  • Men’s top from RM195 onwards & bottom from RM295 onwards.

Club Monaco has opened at The Gardens and will be opening in Pavilion (2 floors).
