More action to protect models

Ever since 2 models from developing countries died from image related health problems (and self-esteem as well as support from agencies, designers), health care in different countries – especially Europe and Brazil has been scrutinizing the health of models. Still, some people say the fashion industry isn’t likely to change – there are even more very skinny models catwalking.

In the 1994, Gianni Albertoni was only 13 when she catwalked Versace! Unfortunately, new rules were implemented and only girls above 16 can catwalk (pls correct me if the info is wrong).

Then, Raica Oliveira’s nipple was airbrushed away (after complaints from public) in D&G ads where she was dancing in wet (and see-through) top with a group of people in a (obviously very hot) party. She was still a teen then. (pic @ bwgreyscale D&G)

That was Luisel Ramos.

Although you may hear Linda Evangelista claiming, “I never get out of bed for less than $10 000″, how many models actually earn that much?

You’d have to be a supermodel like Gisele, Cindy Crawford and Elle (who has their own businesses) to get that much. It doesn’t come with sacrifices. Most, if not all, supermodels had to pose nude (for the sake of art, beauty, sex or money). Young girls without strong self-esteem and values are easy prey. Unassuming, they believe they can be famous and get the jobs they want while being taken advantage by agencies, photographers, fashion designers, etc.
