It was soooooo hard to find Cetaphil! I could only find it in the body section – limited stock too! I thought it wasn’t the product I was looking for.

Finally realized that it can be used for face and body! :D That’s why it’s shelved at Body section. Actually I suspect that not many people use this and there’s no advertising for this so it’s put at the bottom and somewhere. But I read this cleanser won many awards from magazines! How come it’s not famous here?

Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser
Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser

Cetaphil® Gentle Skin Cleanser is great for daily makeup removal or as part of a skincare regimen to treat the dryness caused by topical medications used in the treatment of acne, fine lines and wrinkles. Originally formulated for dermatologists, it is gentle on your skin and sensitive to your skin’s needs. Cetaphil® Gentle Skin Cleanser will not strip the skin of natural protective oils or emollients, or disturb the skin’s natural pH balance. It is fragrance-free and non-comedogenic, making it an excellent choice for daily facial cleansing.

Ingredients: Water, Cetyl Alcohol, Propylene Glycol, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Stearyl Alcohol, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Butylparaben.

Aiya, I didn’t notice there was another formula – Cetaphil® Daily Facial Cleanser For Normal to Oily Skin but has “Masking Fragrance” ingredient:

There’s also Skin Care Guide – don’t use hot water (my bad), pat and not rub (my bad)
This MUST kill all my pimples and give me clear, smooth skin!

However, about the ingredients… I remember Sodium laureth sulfate as a bad ingredient in skincare!

sodium lauryl ether sulfate (SLES), It is a detergent and surfactant found in many personal care products (soaps, shampoos, toothpaste etc.). It is an inexpensive and very effective foamer.

In people with sensitive skin (prone to dermatitis, acne, eczema, psoriasis and chemical sensitivity), the drying property of these type of detergents can cause flare-ups of skin conditions or may worsen existing conditions.[4][5]

And skincare with alcohol?

Cetyl alcohol, also known as 1-hexadecanol and palmityl alcohol, is a solid organic compound and a member of the alcohol class of compounds. Its chemical formula is CH3(CH2)15OH. At room temperature, cetyl alcohol takes the form of a waxy white solid or flakes. It belongs to the group of fatty alcohols.

Cetyl alcohol was discovered in 1817 by the French chemist Michel Chevreul when he heated spermaceti, a waxy substance obtained from sperm whale oil, with caustic potash (potassium hydroxide). Flakes of cetyl alcohol were left behind on cooling.

Ewwww.. sperm whale oil on face! Is this where people say “Use your boyfriend’s sperm on your face and you’ll get smooth skin”? I’ve always thought that was spewed out from a guy hoping to get oral sex.

With the demise of commercial whaling, cetyl alcohol is no longer primarily produced from whale oil, but instead either as an end-product of the petroleum industry, or produced from vegetable oils such as palm oil and coconut oil.

Oh, thank God!

But the other ingredients – Paraben was in controversy lately with cancer.

Verdict after 2 weeks:

I have less huge red pimples and my back actually feels smoother! It doesn’t remove makeup thoroughly though.

When my fingers were itchy, I scraped my face and pressed pimples – BAD BAD habit – I’m trying my best to stop it! When I turned palms up, I saw bits of orange foundation under the nails – makeup! When I looked in the mirror, majority of my face was clean. Just a few long lasting and waterproof makeup stuck on dried pimples. So far, I hadn’t tried to remove mascara with this. So I still need cleansing oil or rewash my face with this cleanser if I wear makeup.

I love how it doesn’t dry up or make my skin oily after using it.

Will update more in the future.

Update 3 Aug 2007

As much as I love Cetaphil, it doesn’t remove all makeup like powder foundation and waterproof mascara completely. So I still need to use makeup remover.

As for using it without water and just wipe it off, it works great! So I can use it whenever there’s no water :)
